About
🔥 THE FOAL THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN BORN The vet was booked to come and put Baronessa to sleep. She only had days left. But when we walked into the stable the next morning… there was a tiny foal lying beside her. And that’s how Blaze came into this world. (continue story) 🔥 Blaze was a complete surprise to us. The kind of surprise that makes you stop, stare, and question everything you thought you knew. But to tell Blaze’s story properly, we have to go back to his mother. Many years ago we rescued a beautiful horse called Baronessa. She truly was a stunner, but sadly her body had been through so much. She suffered from laminitis, she had cancer, and the vets told us something else that broke hearts… She could never have foals. Because of all her problems, the decision had already been made to put her to sleep. But we believed something different. With the right medication and care, we felt Baronessa could still have a good quality of life, so we took her in. She joined the herd with Hotdog, Lorenzo and Sparty — all of them castrated… or at least that’s what we thought. For six peaceful years Baronessa lived happily in the paddock with the others. Then things started to change. She began losing weight, looking tired, and the lumps from her cancer suddenly grew quickly. We moved her into a stable and had the difficult conversation we always dread. We thought her time had come. We called the vet on the Saturday. He said he couldn’t come until Wednesday. So that night we gave Baronessa extra food, extra love, and extra attention, believing these might be some of her last days. But the next morning something happened that none of us could have imagined. When we walked into the stable on Sunday morning, we saw something small lying next to Baronessa. At first we thought the goat had escaped and snuck in. Then we looked again. The goat was still in the field. And that’s when it hit us. Baronessa had done the impossible. During the night she had given birth. After being told she could never have babies… after years of living with geldings… somehow Hotdog, who has one testicle hidden inside his stomach, had managed to do the impossible. And lying there beside her was a tiny foal. Blaze. A complete miracle. Baronessa loved him instantly. She protected him, fed him, and watched him grow stronger every day. For six beautiful months she was not just a survivor… She was a mother. Sadly, six months later Baronessa lost her battle with cancer. But she left something incredible behind. Blaze. This April Blaze will turn four years old. He’s now a big lad, fully castrated, and one of the most affectionate horses here. He loves cuddles, loves being brushed, and he’s always playing over the fence with his neighbour Destiny. Soon we will start working with him properly now that his body is nearly fully grown — the backbone being the last thing to strengthen. Every time we look at Blaze, we are reminded of something important. Sometimes life gives you a miracle when you least expect it. And Blaze is exactly that. A miracle that should never have happened. --- ❤️ If Blaze’s story moved you, please help us continue rescuing and caring for animals like him.
